Terms of use

Effective 9 September 2026. Short version: you own what you share and you are responsible for it. We host it as a courtesy, with no promises, and we can take it down.

#The service

htmldoc.space ("the service", "we") lets a signed-in person publish a single HTML or Markdown file to an unlisted link for 30 days. It is provided free of charge by an individual operator as a convenience for developers and their tools. It is not a hosting product and carries no service level.

#Your account

You sign in with GitHub. You must be old enough to hold a GitHub account under GitHub's terms and to enter into these terms where you live. You are responsible for everything published with your account or your API key, including by any tool or AI agent you have given the key to. Keep the key secret; regenerate it from the dashboard if it leaks.

#Your content

You keep all rights to what you publish. By publishing you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, render (for Markdown), add our badge to, and serve the content to anyone who opens the link, for as long as the page exists, and to keep it in backups for a limited time after. You confirm that you have the right to publish it and that it does not break the rules below.

Links are unlisted, not private. Anyone who has a link can open the page. Do not publish anything you would not want a stranger to read.

#Acceptable use

Do not use the service to publish or link to:

phishing, credential capture, malware, or anything designed to deceive or harm the people who open it;
content that is illegal where you or we are, or that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or privacy;
harassment, threats, hateful content, or sexual content involving minors;
personal data about other people that you have no right to share;
spam, or pages whose main purpose is to game search engines or ad networks.

Do not probe, overload, or interfere with the service, try to guess other people's links, or work around the limits and rate limits. Pages must not store secrets in browser storage, because every page shares one viewer origin.

#Moderation and removal

We may remove any page and suspend or ban any account at any time, with or without notice, for any reason we judge sufficient, including reports from other people, our own review, legal requests, or protecting the service and its users. A removed link shows a removed notice and its id is never reused. There is no appeal process, though you are welcome to contact us.

Every page carries a badge with a Report link. Anyone can report a page. We read reports but do not promise a response time or a particular outcome.

#Lifetime and deletion

Pages expire 30 days after their last upload. An expired page can be revived for 7 more days by updating it; after that its content is purged and cannot be recovered. You can delete a page yourself at any time from the dashboard or the CLI. Deletion is final. We do not keep purged or deleted content, except in routine backups that age out on their own.

#Data we keep

your GitHub numeric id and login, from the sign-in, and nothing else from your GitHub account;
your API key, encrypted at rest, and a hash of it for lookup;
the pages you publish, with their filename, size, and timestamps;
reports about pages, including the reporter's note and IP address; the IP is removed after 30 days;
when you pair the CLI with htmldoc login, the IP address of the machine that asked and of the browser that approved, for abuse investigation; kept 30 days after an approval or denial and one day otherwise;
messages sent through the contact form, with the email address you give us so we can reply, and your IP address for abuse control;
a session cookie while you are signed in, and ordinary web server logs, which include IP addresses and are kept for a short time for security and debugging;
a daily count of visits to the landing page per referring site (or the utm_source tag in the link), with no IP address, cookie, or other identifier, kept for 180 days. Shared pages are not counted.

We do not run third-party analytics or advertising and we do not sell or share this data, except when the law requires it. Sign-in goes through GitHub, whose own terms and privacy policy apply to that step. To have your account and data deleted, delete your pages and ask us, quoting your GitHub login.

#No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, availability, accuracy, or that content will be preserved. Links can stop working, pages can be removed, and the service can change or shut down at any time.

#Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the service or from content published by any user, including lost data, lost profits, or indirect or consequential loss. Content published through the service is the responsibility of the person who published it, not ours. If a claim cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the service, which is nothing.

You agree to hold us harmless from claims by third parties arising from content you publish or from your breach of these terms.

#Changes

We may change these terms by updating this page and its effective date. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it. If you do not, delete your pages and stop using the service.

#Contact

For abuse, takedown, and copyright notices, or anything about your account, use the contact page, which also names the operator and gives a postal address. To flag one page, the report form is quicker. A person reads every message.
